Carpenter Ant Control
Carpenter ants are large, wood-destroying ants that usually are black or dark in color. They are common throughout Georgia and can be found in all parts of the state.
Carpenter ants don't actually "eat" wood like termites and some of the wood-destroying beetles. Carpenter ants create smooth galleries inside wood (usually wood that already has been softened by water damage), and they lay their eggs and raise their young in these galleries. They commonly infest homes, sheds, barns, wooden playground equipment, fence posts, and whatever other convenient piece of wood they can find.
In homes, carpenter ants are most often found in kitchens and bathrooms, although they're also commonly found in sill plates and attics. They prefer relatively high temperature and humidity levels, and will often nest hundreds of feet from their food sources, commuting back and forth several times every day.
Over time, carpenter ants can do significant damage to homes and other wooden structures. But don't worry. That's why we're here.
