Hornets are highly aggressive wasps who build nests made of paper that they manufacture themselves. When these nests are built close to places where people live, work, or play, they have to be removed. Hornets are among the most aggressive of all stinging insects, and they sometimes really will attack a person "just for looking at them funny."
Hornets build their nests in a wide variety of places such as attached to the outside of buildings, suspended from tree limbs, and sometimes in hollow trees and other voids. Each nest can contain between a handful and several hundred individuals. Usually a few of the hornets fly around the nest on sentry duty. If they observe something that makes them feel threatened, they can mobilize the entire colony in a heartbeat, and anybody who's anywhere the nest had better watch out.
