Opossum Trapping and Removal

Opossum on a roof looking down at the groundOpossums (or simply "possums") are rather odd-looking animals with long, prehensile tails, dog-like jaws, human-like "hands" and feet, and mouse-like ears. Females also have a pouch like a kangaroo's. No wonder some people say possums look like they were made from "God's spare parts."

Possums are mainly harmless animals who actually do a lot of good by helping to keep the wild rodent population down. They're passive animals who usually avoid humans and won't attack unless they're cornered. They are vectors of a parasite, however, that causes a serious disease in horses called Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM); so you want opossums anywhere near stables or other places horses are kept.

Possums can also make a nuisance of themselves when they wander into open barns, garages, or basements, or decide to take up residence in crawl spaces or (less commonly) attics. Like all wild fur bearers, they contaminate these areas with their bodily wastes and carry parasites that can cause serious diseases.

If you're having a possum problem, call us for prompt service by an animal control specialist. We service Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, Macon, Roswell, Columbus, and all of North-Central Georgia.
