Scorpion Control in Georgia
Scorpions are primarily nocturnal, predatory, carnivorous arachnids in the order Scorpiones. The striped scorpion, Centruroides vittatus (shown on the right), is the most common scorpion in Georgia and all of America. Scorpions can deliver a very nasty sting, but only a few species' stings are powerful enough to kill a person.
Scorpions feed on insects and other small invertebrates, and sometimes small animals such as small lizards and mice. They hunt at night and spend their days hiding in dark places like under rocks, under tree bark, or under inverted buckets or kiddie pools. They've also been known to hide in hunters' and backpackers' boots, which is why they shake out their boots before putting them on.
At Rid-A-Critter, we approach scorpion control using an integrated pest management philosophy that emphasizes non-chemical control measures. Effective scorpion control consists of the following steps:
- Habitat reduction to reduce harborage areas.
- Sealing entry points into homes and other buildings to exclude scorpions.
- Where necessary, precise and judicious application of insecticides.
